There is no perfect recipe for the perfect coffee date.  Sorry.  But, if you’re reading this, you’re probably in a better position than many others because, well… you’re female!

Yep, we chicks rule when it comes to coffee dates since we get three simple concepts –

  • the value of relationships,
  • how to form them and
  • how to maintain them.

And even though we should never forget a coffee date, in the current sense, is most definitely a business meeting, we equally shouldn’t forget the points above.

For the purposes of this blog, let’s assume you’re meeting someone for the first time since you met them at a prior business networking event.  Part of the recipe to make this meeting, as with all meetings, a success is a preparation so ensure you’ve followed the steps in the Business Building Program on this point.  Seriously, you’ll WOW your co-coffee drinker when she sees how thoroughly you’ve done your homework!  Is there a better way of continuing the relationship than having her impressed by you?

So, you’ve done your homework, and have prepared a mental, and/or physical, list of things you’d like to know about her.  However, it may not be a good idea to chase down these answers as though your life depended on it.  After all, you’re trying to form a relationship of one kind or another and pressuring people for answers is probably not the best way to go about it.  Remember, the key ingredient in forming a relationship is time.  So take it slowly.  You don’t need all the answers in the next hour.

The best relationships are based on open communication so the first thing you may want to form an opinion on is whether or not you like her communication style.  Look for the indicators, verbal and non-verbal, that allow you to understand this.  We go into much more detail in the Business Building Program so click on the link to explore more.
