In honour of men’s health this month the word celebrates Movember. Since 2003, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
I wanted to talk about feelings this week, as often men find it difficult to express them or even to talk about them, often leaving emotions unacknowledged. However, our feelings and emotions are a way to understand if we are in alignment or not, they are a connection to the health of our mind and body and also a guiding force telling us follow what is right or to walk away from what is not.
Plants and animals rely on this innate gut instinct of good and bad vibrations and this feedback helps to shape decisions based on survival. As human beings in the modern world, over time we have not exercised this skill and we can lose touch with that innate knowing of what is right for us.
So this week I want you to notice your emotions and how you feel. I use journalling as a way to reset this miraculous feedback tool to get back in touch with how I am feeling and to bring into my awareness my emotions. My morning and evening questions are designed to bring into your awareness how you think and feel rather than suppressing difficult emotions. If you are going to block the hard feelings, you will also block real joy and pleasure in your life.
At the practice I am often treating clients that are feeling beige about life, they are bored or unfulfilled. It can be as a result of being stressed for a log period of time, operating from a protective state that allows them to merely get through or cope with the day. The idea of bringing in joy, fun or making any changes is too overwhelming and the cycle continues.
To Bend Like Bamboo is to lean into uncertainly, with flexibility so you can embrace change with grace. When you can give the mind and body the best environment to feel relaxed you are more inclined to bend in times of change with flexibility, you will look after yourself more, you will be kinder and you will play bigger.
Mediation is also a great combo with the journaling because it will quiet the mind which is connected to the body and its systems. In a calmer state you will be more open for possibility.
So tap into your feelings, ask yourself do I feel good? Great keep doing what you are doing.
If you are feeling not so good, look at what you can shift to allow in a better vibration. Start your morning and eventing routine of mediation and journaling and after 21 days you will have formed a new habit.
You can also nourish the mind, body and spirit with the The Bend Like Bamboo 6 step program, download the eBooks or come in for a session with me. I also work with team’s in the workplace.
